Land's Sake Farm: Observing Pollinators in Action

Last week we had a lovely walk to the farm to observe pollinators in action. Below you'll see pictures of children observing and recording pollinators (bumble bees, honey bees, carpenter bees, butterflies, humming birds, and more!) on colorful flowers.

Observing Flowers: Why do we even need pollinators?

Children then got to dissect flowers to learn about seeds and the protective way a flower keeps them safe. When a pollinator successfully transfers pollen from one flower to another, a seed will grow. Eventually, these seeds will grow into the fruits we love to eat.

Becoming a Pollinator

Each child was given their own pollinator "wand" and charged with the mission to become a pollinator like the ones they observed. People are also pollinators!

Observing + Recording Pollinators in Action

Find a partner, and go spot some pollinators in action! Record your data on your recording sheet. What color flower was the most attractive to pollinators today?
